Rupert has twelve years’ experience in statutory, environmental and strategic planning with a focus on environmental monitoring in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Since joining Beca in 2004 as a senior planner, Rupert has worked on a variety of planning and multi-disciplinary projects from site master and precinct planning to seeking planning approvals for a number of large infrastructure projects. He has also managed the consenting and consultation processes for several large land development projects for clients such as Westfield New Zealand.
A prominent project that has helped Rupert grow his technical abilities was the Northern Busway Project in Auckland. As Planning Lead for the Beca component of the Southern Sector of the Busway design phase, he managed the coordination of detailed design within existing consent and designation conditions. Rupert was also involved in the design reports, preparation of additional Regional and District resource consents for variations to the project, alterations to the existing designation applications and ongoing consultation and liaison with stakeholders and affected parties.
Rupert appreciates the opportunities he has had for professional development in a technical and leadership capacity at Beca. He cites Beca’s Job Management and Job Director programmes as having been extremely valuable. In 2006 Rupert was identified as a future leader and participated in Beca's leadership programme.
Rupert currently manages the Auckland Planning team comprising around 30 planners, urban designers and support staff. He enjoys working with the planning directors and his team to help successfully drive the Auckland Business forward. In 2009, Rupert was appointed a Technical Director, a milestone he is particularly proud of that recognises his ongoing contribution to the company.
