"Beca's core strengths as an organisation are our depth of expertise, and our commitment to successful client relationships."
Mark is the General Manager of Building Structures, with responsibility for defining the strategic direction for that group, developing its business plan, managing key staff development, and playing an active role in client relationship management. He also leads a number of large projects.
His particular specialism lies in structural engineering of large, multi-storey commercial developments in New Zealand and South East Asia, and he served as Section Head of Beca's Auckland Commercial Structures section for five years prior to assuming his current role.
Key projects include the Macau Tower & Entertainment Centre, where he was the job manager and structural design lead, his role as Job Director for the AUT Business School, with responsibility for leading the relationship with the client, and Pacific Place in Jakarta, again as Job Director. This last project was particularly challenging, involving the reuse of an existing structure installed seven years previously, before the project was put on hold due to the Asian Financial Crisis.
From Mark's early days as a graduate engineer, Beca has provided him with the opportunities and training to forge a successful career path within the company. He still enjoys his work immensely, particularly the relationships with colleagues, opportunities to travel, and the flexibility to apply his own style in his work. "We have great people at Beca and a good team atmosphere. Despite being such a large company, the environment is extremely supportive, with easy access to technical experts, and a strong desire to help each person to succeed."
