As CFO and an Executive Director, Chye leads Beca’s finance and legal teams globally, oversees the group’s insurance arrangements, employee shareholding scheme and pension plans, and provides direction regarding Beca’s governance and corporate structure. In his 27 year tenure with Beca, as company secretary and then board director, Chye’s strategic and forward thinking has been instrumental in navigating Beca’s growth from a New Zealand company of 20 principals to an international consultancy employing over 2,700 people.
Beyond Beca, Chye is a strong advocate of the accounting profession. He is a member of the University of Auckland Business School Advisory Board, a councillor and past-president of the New Zealand Council of CPA Australia, and contributes as a panel judge for various finance and business awards. He was a member of the Ministerial Panel on Business Compliance Costs, served as Chairperson of the Auckland Normal Intermediate School Board of Trustees, and was awarded the 2010 President's Award - CPA Australia.
Chye maintains an enduring focus on mentoring leadership talent both within and beyond Beca. Chye’s own mentor and Beca founder Sir Ron Carter believed that skills and intelligence are found in all people and all areas, and that careful nurturing, guiding and integrating these capabilities achieves the best results possible. Chye attributes much of Beca’s success to its dedicated application of this philosophy.
