Beca recognised for outstanding commitment to Defence

Date: 26/10/12
Beca has been presented with an award for outstanding commitment to New Zealand Defence in this year's Minister of Defence Awards of Excellence to Industry.

Nominated by Defence Force personnel who have worked with Beca for more than twenty years, the award recognises Beca's understanding of the bespoke nature of defence infrastructure, and the need to be responsive to specific user requirements.

Beca's working philosophy was highlighted by the Judging Panel and Assessment Team with the comments: "Their high quality staff have an excellent willingness to bring their ideas to the forefront and share anything and everything. Overall Beca is a hard-working, open and tenacious company."

An extract from the Assessment Team notes: "The expertise embedded within Beca has been beneficial to Defence, especially in the resolution of contractual issues, and the provision of airfield engineering advice. Since 1988 Beca has been the recognised 'go to' expert for engineering advice on RNZAF's airfield pavements."

Two other Beca projects were also shortlisted for the Awards this year, Project TAKITINI and the RNZN Close In Weapons System (CIWS) trainer.

The Defence Industry Advisory Council (formerly the Defence Industry Committee of New Zealand) established the Minister of Defence Awards of Excellence to Industry in 1998 to highlight and reward the contribution made by industry to Defence. The Awards take place annually in Wellington, in conjunction with the New Zealand Defence Industry Association (NZDIA) Defence Industry Forum.
