With a team of over 30 geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists, back by an in-house soils testing an labrotory Geotest, Beca provides geotechnical advice to national and international commercial, industrial and infrastructure clients in NZ and in many overseas locations.
Beca's geotechnical services include scoping and undertaking site investigations, designing foundations and retaining walls, assessing slope stability, geological mapping, pavement design, hydrogeology and hazard studies. These services can be employed in the early stages of a project to assist decisions about feasibility and conceptual design.
Many project locations have widely variable ground conditions, even within the footpront of a development site. Geotechnical input can be used to endeavour to optimise proposed developments, informing clients of the balance between cost and risk.
Beca has a track record in providing options to help in using the natural materials available. Past examples of this included the invention and use of 'mudcrete' at ports for reclamation fill, and the crushing of 'coral boulders' to form a an effective aggregate for use in runway reconstruction in remote island locations.
