We have an excellent working relationship with the Department of Corrections in New Zealand and have worked with them on a variety of projects in recent years.
In particular, members of our Buildings team are currently working on a new women’s prison in Auckland, designed to meet the expectations of the Department for women’s facilities. The facilities are designed to enable efficient maintenance and operations, consistent with the Departments drive to Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) objectives. This project is being delivered under a Collaborative Working Arrangement.
We are also assisting with building services at the new 350-bed Otago Region Corrections Facility due to open mid-2007. At Rimutaka prison near Wellington we are involved with a new extension to the infrastructural services which involves several new buildings and some smaller staff amenity buildings along with a perimeter fence security upgrade.
Prior work throughout the Department of Corrections facilities includes being responsible for the Y2K assessments of all systems outside those of the IT department – i.e., monitoring and control systems such as security, building management, CCTV, people movement management, and alarms. We have also provided engineering and town planning work for other Department of Corrections Prisons, and undertaken a building audit of a private prison to review services with respect to Department of Corrections requirements.
