Historic Site in Central Christchurch
Beca advised on the potential redevelopment constraints posed by the site's contamination status, in order that Christchurch City Council could assess the site's market value.
Christchurch City Council was considering the redevelopment of a site in central Christchurch. The site had a varied history and there are records of public baths, a morgue, blacksmiths, stables, workshops/refuelling areas, and a former incinerator all being present on the site at some time.
The Beca land contamination team did:
- a desk-based assessment of the potential contamination issues at the site with the aim to identify potential areas of environmental concern
- design and supervision of an intrusive site investigation including the installation of boreholes and the collection of soil samples for laboratory chemical analysis
- assessment of the contamination results obtained by comparison to relevant standards
- recommendations related to site redevelopment and requirements for further investigation.
Beca's analysis helped the client to identify issues to be taken into account during the assessment of site redevelopment options, as well as assisting them to determine the site’s market value.
