“I was given plenty of opportunities to attend meetings and interact with people including clients, fellow consultants and contractors.”
Challenging, rewarding and satisfying all come to mind when Kelvin reflects on his time with Beca. Prior to his graduate position, he had exposure to the multidisciplinary firm through an industrial attachment. “With my 22 week experience at Beca I was able to make an informed career choice, unlike many of my peers”, he says.
Kelvin has never looked back, being rewarded with new experiences in the form of interesting projects and people from diverse backgrounds, far from the expected mundane working life. Joining Beca during a construction boom afforded him the mechanical design for the mega Universal Studios Singapore project, part of the Sentosa Integrated Resort. Despite tight deadlines and long working hours, he found the work both challenging and enjoyable. “To see your designs approved and put into practice really makes it all worth the effort”, he says.
Having witnessed first hand Beca’s willingness to invest in its employees, Kelvin has plenty of reasons to continue and blossom with the company. With a passion for learning, he relishes the open culture at Beca and the devotion to sharing knowledge. “Everyone I come across, whether it is my boss or my mentor, has gone out of their way to help me fit in quickly”, Kelvin says.
Being a part of Beca also enables Kelvin to make a difference in shaping today’s community. “It’s satisfying to know that I am making an impact on the world I live in, however small or insignificant it may be.”
